August Visitors

It's been a busy August so far with lots of friends and family visiting us! Our best friends, Pat and Katie Coakley arrived in the middle of July and are staying with us until after Labor Day when they return to their "new permanent" home in The Villages, FL.

We finally got Rose's brother, Mike and his wife Robin up here to visit the last days of July with Rose's big sister, Mary. The weather was warm and bright and it was great to see them.

August 1 brought Grandma Alice, Aunt Donna (oldest and youngest of their family) and our grand-daughters Maria (8), Carmen (6) and Isabel (4). Everyone stayed with us through Saturday, August 4 and we did lots of fun stuff. Grandma Rose took the little girls to the Elk Rapids beach where they entered a sandcastle building contest. On the way home they all stopped in a field of sunflowers. Grandma took a picture of Isabel in the sunflowers. Can you find her? Its like finding Waldo in the Where's Waldo books!

The little girls helped Grandma Rose and Grandpa Bob pick wild blackberries just down the street from our house and Grandpa made blackberry cobbler all by himself! It was actually good.

We all went downtown Traverse City (one day when Grandma Rose was working) to see the sights and go to Clinch Park to ride the train. When we got there we discovered there was a street fair going on. The very first thing we ran into was a Charlie Chaplin mime and we got a picture of all the "girls" together. The mime happened to be the son of one of the owners of the insurance firm where Grandpa Bob worked.
Then we went for a ride on "The Spirit of Traverse City" and the little girls had a great time. But, Isabel thought the train smoke smelled and Carment thought it was loud. Maria just plain liked it!
A little later we went for a walk in the street fair and got some cotton candy. Grandpa Bob thought we could share one great big bag of cotton candy so he split it up. But, Isabel was quite disappointed as you can see! But, she had a good time anyway.
Then it was time to go home and we met Grandma Alice and Aunt Donna where they were resting under a shade tree in a little plaza in town.

We all had a nice time and it was wonderful to see the "big girls" and the "little girls" at the same time.

By the way, Rose is now feeling back to normal. It seems that after feeling so bad for four months and getting tested for cancer, gallbladder, intestinal disease, ulcers, and generally completely checked out from top to bottom (literally) we discovered it was all due to an adverse reaction to her cholesterol medication. No one suspected it since she had been on it for two years but out of desperation Bob suggested trying to go without it. Low and behold that was it!! The good news out of this is that we know Rose is healthy afterall. The lesson to be learned is to be sure to question medication if you are having sudden changes in health.

This summer has had us busy as bees!

Where's Isabel?

Train rides are fun but smelly and loud!

Sometimes its hard to share.

Two lovely ladies relax on a beautiful day.
