Hiverant Ladies

This weekend Rose hosted the latest gathering of the Hiverants. Only 4 visitors were able to make it this time. Members of the group have scattered across the country over the years and families have grown up and prevented attendance. But the tradition continues. It started with four ladies in the mid 1980s and at one time had as many as a dozen participating. Over the years the group has transitioned from downhill and cross-country skiing at their winter gathering to golf and canoeing at their summer gathering...to now which involves shopping, watching movies, playing indoor games and dinner outings. The errant member may still cross country ski and the group might play a round of golf but wisdom (does that mean age) has lessened the physical exertion.

This year Bob was allowed to stay in the house because they needed a chaperone and designated driver for their wine tour! After their first night of laughing, giggling, cackling and generally catching up (Bob hid away with TV in the bedroom) they ventured out on Saturday to the Traverse City chili-cookoff for lunch. They did a small bit of window shopping in downtown TC and then went on a wine tour of the Old Mission peninsula vinyards called the Winter Warm Up. The evening was topped off with dinner at the Peninsula Grill and games at home (Bob headed to the casino).

Sunday morning is a bit lazy with a couple going to church to pray for the others. Good friends continue to gather and they miss their other good friends who could not join in this time.

The Hiverant flag welcomes all.

The weather cleared up for the wine tour!

Ah, the flag...I seem to remember catching a glimpse of this crew running down Second St. in the dark in HB with a couple of them hoisting the flag high leading the rest of the group. I was in high school. Mrs. Hicks' students were baffled...I was embarrassed. Oh the good 'ole days :)
