Plant Life in Traverse City

The rain early this week did wonders for the plants in the backyard. Irises are in late bloom and the brilliant yellow ones that we bought last year at the "Iris Farm" west of TC did quite well. They are a brilliant yellow. Went today for a bike ride and picked out some more to be dug in August from the farm and we will pick up to plant near these.
First photo is one of our 3 oval plots of flowers coming along. The yarrow will bloom soon (in the middle) and you can see a Japanese Maple that we planted today to give some height to the back of the oval and some color to contrast the green and flowers. Hopefully this patch will have purple and white cone flowers, yellow rudbeckia and white shasta daisies in about two weeks.
Artemisa (the gray stuff) is doing well. We brought it from Coldwater. The purple veronica is in bloom and the split leave coriopses (left side of photo) will produce tiny yellow flowers in about a week or so. Second patch of irises in the background.

The lupines are still doing well. I'm so happy they came up. These are the "wild flowers" that I planted two years ago. Not many lupines but enough that I think they will reseed themselves for next year. The domestic ones that we bought and planted are doing virtually nothing! Who says wild flowers aren't good?
