A Great Day in Northern Michigan

The last day of September was a great day for a ride so Rose and Bob took off to the tip of the Old Mission peninsula. Partly cloudy and breezy, it was in the low 70's and the fall color is starting to show. We packed some wine, a small lunch and headed out. Hard to believe that we were at this exact location in May of 1972 for part of our honeymoon and where you see us sitting was all water! But then, I can remember when the water was lapping at the bottom of the steps heading down from the Old Mission light house in the early 80's.

Days like this are what we love so much about northern Michigan and the fall!

Our lunch spot at the tip of Old Mission.

All of this was under water a couple decades ago and, a couple decades before that was just about as dry. Odd to see a praying mantis out here.

This lady was as big as my arm! Well, maybe not but it was a big one.

Rose toasts her name. She reminded me that this is quite a bit smaller than the name that I made in footprints on Sleeping Bear dune on our honeymoon.

Retirement is pretty darn good on days like this!

Near the Old Mission lighthouse were several geocaches. We decided to try one and Rose found it! There is a small green box hanging from the limb just to the right of Rose's outstretched hand. She is holding a deck of cards we found in it. We signed our names and left a Harley head wrap that I don't use.

A stop at Chateau Grand Traverse on the way back shows some of the color just beginning to show.

Self portrait. See how mellow one can be after some wine and chocolate truffles?

I want to be retired right now!...I guess for that to happen, we'd have to stop buying things like new trucks! ~ AM
