Winter Fun and Vegetation

After our January thaw and no snow left on the ground for a few days we received 6 inches of heavy, wet snow on Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning Rose and Bob decided to check out the Grand Traverse Resort's ski trails. Rose wanted to check it out for her gathering of gal friends from around the state. This gathering has gone on since the early 1980's when Rose and Katie Coakley first ventured into Canada for a cross country ski outing. Since then, our friend from Harbor Beach, Hugh Clark, named the gals the hiverants (a name for French explorers in the past).
The last few years the hiverants have been hit and miss in getting together. Rose decided it was time to try again and is hosting the event the last weekend of January. So, she decided we needed to check out the Resort to see if it might work for the ladies.
The last photo in this posting is actually the last shot we took on our Arizona trip. On the way back to Phoenix from Sedona we took the long way into town and went through Carefree. On the way we saw a launch of about 10 hot air balloons so we got a quick photo of a couple going up.
Rose is wondering if this pond might present some danger for the girly hiverants.
A nice, flat area of the trail between the Resort and a local restaurant known as Travinos. It is on the hill to the right.

The ski trail follows much of the original golf course of the Resort. Rose was trying to get a photo of Bob pointing to the tower. If you look hard in the lower right you can see him. So much for Rose's photographic ability!

Even though we had a winter thaw Rose still insisted that our heat was not high enough in the house. So, Bob covered her up but she still pouted that it was not enough warmth.

Rose even got Booger the cat into the action.
