Refrigeration Wars

September 6 began the formal saga. Informally, it began perhaps in late winter. Our refrigerator, then barely a year old, was not always keeping proper temperature in the freezer compartment but...Bob thought it was due to houseguests and little ones simply opening the freezer door a lot and peering inside to see what goodies needed liberating.
This summer we had several visitors over a period of mid-July through August. Once again the freezer would not always hold temp but once the frequent opening and closing subsided the temp would drop back down when houseguests left.
But, September 6 the freezer was up to 28 deg and would not go down and...we were to leave the following weekend for South Carolina. So, I called a repair shop and they stopped out to check. Four more visits spread over four weeks led to complete failure of the frig. Literally all internal components were ordered and yesterday, October 8, we were to have it fixed!
Alas, the technician found that not all the parts were present. His call to the manufacturer, GE, resulted in their statement that the missing part was a non-repairable part and the frig would be replaced. Great news! Several calls back and forth with the repair shop, GE and the technician had our hopes raised then dashed then raised again. We finally were informed that a new frig would be sent in about a week. Must be the local shop had the model on hand as this morning it was delivered to the house! Whoo hoo! A grownup refrigerator again after nearly 5 weeks without. Now...will this one take a lickin' and keep on tickin'?

Here is what Rose bought after her return from South Carolina. Almost two weeks to the day we made do with it. At least we now have a place to put some extra food and drink when we have visitors. And, this was all such a little issue in the big scheme of things. We had no hurricanes, no floods nor any long term periods without heat or light. We are thankful.

The little guy's big brother. So shiny and bright!
