Bike Trip Random Photos

Of a gazillion photos we took here are some representative ones. As you know, no photos really convey the beauty and majesty of the countryside...even of rolling farmland. But, we do try.

A view of the Rockies.

Rollin' down the highway. Erin took this photo of me in Nebraska.

We took the interstate out of Denver area to Ogallala and then got on US 30 also known as the Lincoln Highway. It paralleled I 90 through Nebraska and then we kept on it nearly through Iowa when we detoured to catch Anamosa (where we drove by an historical prison) and then Dyersville and the Field of Dreams.

This was a pretty large storm that we skirted in Iowa. I was not certain that we would make it.

Starting the day out in Boone, Iowa. We stayed at the same motel as dozens of other farmers from across the midwest who were attending a conference on manure or as one of the guys said, "We're here for the shit show!"

We visited Madison, WI and stopped for lunch in a very cool little cafe. We wanted to linger but another storm was rolling in from the west so we headed on the way. The state capital reminded me of Lansing.

Erin also wanted to drive through downtown Milwaukee. On the way out we stopped at the Comet Cafe featured on the Food Network's show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." It was great food.

I mentioned in the previous blog that this trip was a review of firsts. This is a shot of the first property that we owned between Manistique and Gulliver in the UP. It is very run down and quite overgrown but then it has been 30 years since we were there. I was determined to own some land and this was 10 acres of cedar trees.

As we passed through St. Ignace Erin wanted to climb Castle Rock one more time. It was the regular stop for nearly 20 years of vacations at Brevort Lake and Drummond Island.

The Mackinac Bridge. It was overcast and looked like rain but it held off and we made the rest of the trip home without a drop and even sunshine "below the bridge."
