White Christmas, A Partridge in a...what? and Old Acquaintence

Christmas on the front lawn.

Well, it looks like we are to have a very white Christmas in Traverse City. About a foot of snow in the last week made things beautiful. We anxiously await the arrival of our daughters, their husbands, the grand-children and Bob's mother. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so their drive north is safe. Fourteen souls in our house for four days should translate to a wonderful chaos!

The snow piled up very nicely on the bench in the back yard.

The back deck is packed solidly but we did get it cleared off.

As I took out some recycling in the garage I heard this rattling noise. In northern Michigan we refer to ruffed grouse as partridges. So, we did not start with a partridge in a pear tree but we did have a ruffed grouse in the garage! The stupid bird kept flying into the walls when the garage door was fully open as well as the outside passage door. And, these darn things are actually a challenge to hunt...go figure.

An acquaintance from the Harbor Beach days, Tom Clair, is the band director in nearby Kingsley. Their jazz ensemble played at the Grand Traverse Resort so we headed over to listen and introduce ourselves after 25 years or so. He has a good program and the group sounded great. A member of the group was out of town so Tom sat in as well as directed.
