Thanksgiving in South Carolina

Thanksgiving week was spent in South Carolina visiting daughter Maeve and husband Aaron and daughter Erin who is acting as their nanny for a few months. While there we did a few projects around their house, helped out local charity, hosted friends on Thanksgiving, drank a bit, at a lot, laughed and enjoyed each other's company. It was a quick trip but so enjoyable. Kendall is a lucky little girl to have her loving parents and Aunt Erin there as well as both sets of grandparents and 4 of her natural great-grandparents alive.

Kendall practices up for the big day.

The battle ground and preparations begin on Thanksgiving morning. The hands are moving so fast the camera image is just a blur!

Thanksgiving morning we also did the Turkey Trot in downtown Columbia to benefit local charity. It was very cool and foggy as you can see but Aaron braved it with his shorts.

Kendall needed some gloves for the cool morning air. We had to improvise.

We're just about ready to begin as we pose with the mascots.

The race is about to begin.

"Look, isn't that Dad in the lead? Oh, nope, he is just coming out of the port-a-john."

Their good friends the Weidners, and Scott's parents, joined us for Thanksgiving dinner. Scott is a chef and his job for the day was to prepare the turkeys...one traditional and the other deep fried...and both great!

Megan, Rose, Scott and his mother Sharon getting ready for dinner.

The major project was to remodel their guest bathroom thanks to generous gift from sister Erin of a custom made formed concrete counter top and then a total makeover of the bathroom. The before shot shows the wall condition, the existing counter top and the color.

A few days later, lots of elbow grease and Erin's artful touch and a pretty darn nice bathroom!

We had to rest after all the work and enjoy a mimosa the next morning.

"What's wrong with desert in the morning? It will spoil if we don't eat it!"

We also headed off to a local flea market that offered some native character...and a good buy of this cool little vehicle for Kendall.

Maeve decided to use our free labor some more and we helped put up their Christmas decorations.

Grandma Rose did a lot of Kendall hugging!

Our last morning in Lexington was a breakfast out at a little cafe.

"Hey Dad, before you leave can you see what's wrong with our doorbell?"

Grandma Rose was determined to find Kendall some backyard equipment...especially a swing. It was another project accomplished on the last day.

We found a great bargain on the playhouse at the local K Mart at less than half price. All it took was a little washing down from sitting outside in storage at the store.

Kendall's first slide needed some assistance. Next summer should be lots of fun!

Lunch at Olive Garden on the last day.

Kendall loves her Cheerios! We had a great time and look forward to seeing everyone just a few weeks away at Christmas up here in Traverse City.
