Week two of our trip we traveled to Lexington, SC (a suburb of the capitol city Columbia) to visit daughter Maeve and hubby Aaron. The next day Bob, Rose and Maeve traveled to Savannah for two days at the Green Palm Bed & Breakfast. We arrived on St. Patrick's Day to celebrate for our second time this wonderful Irish holiday. After two nice days in Savannah we traveled back to Lexington for a few more days of visiting Maeve and Aaron. Rose and Bob did some yard work, replaced a sink faucet, frequented a local pub with Aaron's fellow teachers to play bar trivia and generally relaxed and enjoyed the company. To finish up our week we'll go to Good Friday mass, have some fun on Saturday, go to Easter mass and travel back to Coakleys in The Villages. Will post more pics after we arrive back home in Traverse City next week.
The Green Palm is a very nice, quaint B&B in Savannah. We highly recommend it and our hosts are natives of Michigan.
Since we arrived in Savannah on St. Patrick's Day what else could we do but tour the pubs? This is our first stop.
Maeve, at stop #2, bedecked in the Irish bling.
Stop #4 finally brought us to The B & B Bar where we found a bar tender who could make a drink called the Irish Flag. Rose, as you can see, was slightly daunted.
The bouncer at the B & B was glad to see us (it was early and not yet many patrons) so he asked if we would take a photo and give the pub some good recommendations. Yes, a good place to go.
Maeve and Rose at stop #6
The day after St. Patrick's Day we took a trolley tour of Savannah. It is a beautiful city and one of our stops was at St. John the Baptist cathedral. Truly beautiful and...only a coincidence that we stopped after our St. Pat's evening before!
Our hostess at the Green Palm, Diane, was a wonderful cook. Here we wait for a great breakfast.
On the way to Savannah from Lexington we drove to outer islands from Beaufort, SC to find the "best shrimp burger ever" at the Shrimp Shack. On the way we saw this shrimping outfit that surely must have been where they filmed the scenes in Forrest Gump.
The morning of our trip to Savannah. You'll note the deck area to the right is free of plant life after we did some drastic trimming of a plant that was taking over the deck.
Here you see the area above in the midst of hacking away at the plant life.
We also visited one of the Harley Davidson dealers in the Columbia area. They had entertainment and food on this beautiful Sunday before St. Patrick's.
A photo from Maeve's camera of stop #5 in Savannah on St. Pats.
Our three "Irish Flags" at the B & B Bar in Savannah. It is green creme de mint on the bottom, followed by Baileys poured delicately so it will float on top of the green and finished with Gran Marnier also floated on top to form the familiar colors of the Irish flag.
On our detour to the outer islands beyond Beaufort, SC to find the famous Shrimp Shack shrimp burgers we arrived to find the place CLOSED! Dejected we drove back the way we came (only one way in and out of the islands) and came to this wonderful little place. It did not look like much but the food was excellent and made from true Gullah recipes.
