The last week and a half we have hosted our friends Pat and Katie Coakley and Roger and Pat Finlan. We all worked together as school administrators in the 80's and remained good friends through the years.
We've also had some wildlife visitors who have torn up our yard so I did some trapping. Got one raccoon and knew we had more so I put the live trap out again and, unfortunately, got a skunk. It was certainly doing some of the damage to the yard but getting rid of it proved problematic. But with mask, Vicks to mask some of the smell and a pitchfork I was able to remove the skunk (after a couple 22 long rifle shots) and carry it away from the house. Needless to say my dear, dear friends gave me lots of moral support but all from afar.
Rose also learned a new knitting skill when we visited my cousin Laurie in Colorado. It is called "felting" and Rose tried it soon after we got home. She has already made one project and it turned out quite well. Others are certain to come and I can see some gifts for the girls in the future.
Anyway, it has been a great few weeks around the ranch and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with our friends.
If you look closely you can see I have a mask on and the dead skunk is about to be dumped from the cage. You can see the grass torn up behind me...just some of the damage the vermin have done. But, where is my help?
Oh, here's my help on the back deck. The help offered is taking the photo of me. At least Katie was awake for the task! Roger and Patrick were asleep.
Roger and Pat Finlan joined us for a couple nights, too. The weather cooperated with dry and cool summer weather so we could enjoy grilling and eating on the back deck.
Our neighbor, Ring Jensen, came over one day and joined the boys for some beverage and BS. We are all pretty good at the latter! I had purchased some specially numbered bottles of Jack Daniels that commemorated the 75th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition and the 70th anniversary of the re-opening of the Jack Daniels distillery. It was the only gift I bought for myself on the trip back from Denver. Fortunately, Erin had enough room in her Jeep for the box. Skal, cheers, slainte!!
