Pearl Fryer Topiary & 40 Acre Rock

We decided to check out the northeast upstate area today. We checked out a private topiary garden that a special man by the name of Pearl Fryar created at his personal home near Bishopville. He's been featured on television and in other media. One needs to see it personally to really grasp just how much he has done. Very amazing and it was a beautiful 70+ degree day.

We also visited an obscure site called 40 acre rock. It is a rather unique bedrock outcropping that is more likely to be seen in the far north like the Canadian shield. It was a bit over a quarter mile walk back from the road end but very unique. No signs mark the spot which is sad. And, really sad, there are lots of graffiti around the rock. Nevertheless, a very cool spot.

The creator, Pearl Fryar, on his front lawn working on his grounds.

One of many hedge rows on his grounds.

Really interesting creations.

The hike back to 40 acre rock. Note the burned underbrush on the left side. This was a very recent fire and we saw several spots of still smoldering areas.
