These are the final three pics as promised.
It's that time of year again...not really for the Super Bowl but for a reason to make pasties! As far as we can recall we first made pasties to go along with the SuperBowl in 1980 when we were in Harbor Beach. There were several Yoopers living there and we tended to gravitate to each other even though they were teachers and I was an administrator. Someone came up with the idea to have a pastie making party the weekend before the SuperBowl and then to gather for the game and eat our recently made pasties. I think the first time we did it there were about 6-8 couples. We formed a bit of a production line and made scores of pasties. Many were frozen for later use and of course we refrigerated the necessary number to warm up on the big day.
Anyway, although we moved from Harbor Beach in 1984 we kept up the tradition. We put cubed steak, cubed pork, potatoes, onions, carrots and, the absolute necessity, rutabagas. Lots of pepper is added. Both of us cut up the ingredients. Rose makes the dough and rolls it out (that is the hard part...we no longer use lard but it did make the best dough). Bob puts the mixture into the rolled out dough, adds a pat of butter, folds and closes the pastie and we pop them into the oven for about an hour.
Good memories live on! We'll post another blog with a photo of the pastie on the plate ready to eat. We kind of alternate between putting catsup or gravy over the pastie. Both are great.

Make sure there are a few left in two weeks! I think I'm more excited about the pastie than Great Wolf Lodge!!!
You know - if there are any left over you could bring them to SC. Or, better yet we could make some here to freeze! You are after all the pros...~AM
