Grandma Alice in Traverse City, Springtime, Asparagus and Americana

Grandma Alice took a bus tour to Mackinaw Island and Bob picked her up in Mackinaw City for a visit with Bob and Rose in TC. It was a nice visit with a mixture of good and bad weather, visits to casinos in the area and several tastes of asparagus.

Grandma had bad weather for her first day on Mackinaw Island and it was cool on both days but the second day was beautiful sunshine. I had to get a photo of the Mackinac Bridge.

Normal duties continued and the birds needed food.

The phlox is in full bloom but the magnolia tree and redbud did not have healthy blooms due to the mixture of frost and wind.

The orioles returned. We've heard them for several days and finally got a glimpse of one high in the tree.

The planted lupines just aren't doing well but these volunteer ones in the stones around our steps are going gangbusters! Whenever we try to transplant they just do poorly. Go figure...

The local asparagus is ready so Rose wanted to try a homemade asparagus quiche. Here it is looking perfect and it tastes great!

Speaking of asparagus...we headed over to Empire, just south of the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and attended their asparagus festival. While walking we saw this sign and caught a photo of Grandma.

At the asparagus festival tent with all kinds of asparagus dishes. Here we try asparagus sliders...mini-burgers with asparagus guacamole. Pretty tasty.

Now you know when you can attend.

Waiting for the big parade.

The Grand Marshall in the only motorized parade entry.

The asparagus queen...how'd you like that on your resume'?

The Empire Asparagus Festival Kazoo Band. The parade took all of 7 minutes...but it did go around twice! This is Americana at its best.

Looks like fun. Great shots too. Did the wild asparagus by your house come up yet?
